CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. — Tyler Stewart made his season debut and his return to the Burrell Bucs against the Carrick Cougars at Ice Castle Arena Monday night. Stewart scored six of Burrell’s eight goals, but it wasn’t enough as his team fell, 10-8. The 7 p.m. game was called for curfew at 8:50 p.m. after Cougar defender Lexi Jones put in an empty net goal to cap the scoring.

Junior forward Carson Kaczmarek opened the scoring for Burrell just over three minutes into the first period before Stewart scored his first of the season a minute and a half later. Gio Palombo scored at the 6:50 mark with a power play goal to give Burrell the quick 3-0 lead.

Carrick woke from the slow start to answer those goals and then some, as the Cougars roared to four straight goals. Tyson Feldman scored at the 7:04 mark to get Carrick on the board. Then, three goals in 48 seconds from Nicholas Cindrich, Ian Norkevicus, and Ethan Wright gave Carrick their first lead of the game. Stewart then tied the game 4-4 for the Bucs at 10:14 of the first.

The second period featured just the same scoring touch from both sides. The teams traded goals – two from Stewart for Burrell and one each from Jacob Fetzer and Casey Brennan for Carrick – before Wright gave Carrick another lead, 7-6. Stewart tied it once more at the 12:16 mark, but Norkevicus and Feldman each got their second of the game, at the 14:31 and the 17:00 marks, to give Carrick a 9-7 lead they did not relinquish.

Stewart added his sixth goal of the night at the 12:19 mark of the third period, but it was not enough as the Carrick Cougars took the 10-8 victory to move to 10-1 on the season and two points behind South division-leading Ringgold.

Burrell fell to 3-8 and sit in the fourth and final seed of the North division of Class-B.

Carrick will travel north to Hess Ice Rink to play Neshannock on Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Burrell will head even further north next week to play Erie McDowell at Mercyhurst Ice Center on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 8:30 p.m.

MAJOR FOCUS: Tyler Stewart returns for Burrell, but Bucs cannot tame Cougars, fall 10-8.
