Alex Schall scores twice as Latrobe advances over Armstrong, 6-2

GREENSBURG, Pa. — Alex Schall scored twice, including the game-winner, as Latrobe defeated Armstrong, 6-2 at Kirk Nevin Arena on Monday in the Class-2A PIHL Penguins Cup Playoffs.

Armstrong took an early 1-0 lead off the stick of Ethan Prugh, but it was all Wildcats after that.

Schall got Latrobe on the board at 5:52 of the first, Darick Hrtyanski scored 21 seconds later and Schall added his second at 10:45 of the second to give Latrobe the lead for good.

Cole Ferri, Allen Rider and Alex Walker added to the Latrobe lead before Maddox Rearic scored a late shorthanded tally for the River Hawks.

Greg Irons made 10 saves for the win for Latrobe, while Armstrong’s Gavin Grafton was saddled with the loss after stopping six of 14. Dylan Moriss turned aside a perfect six of six in relief.

Latrobe will face Hempfield in the PIHL Class-2A semifinal on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at RMU Island Sports Center.
