Cole Shannon’s shutout sends Baldwin over Moon, 3-0

HARMAR TWP., Pa. — The Moon Tigers and Baldwin Highlanders fought for a spot in the Class-AA quarterfinals Tuesday night at Alpha Ice Complex. A date with Upper St. Clair was on the line, and the Highlanders rose to the challenge, taking the 3-0 victory behind a shutout from Cole Shannon, who stopped all 20 shots he faced, and a pair of goals from Andrew Golvash.

As hectic as the playoffs have been so far in 2019, Baldwin and Moon had a different pace in mind. Methodical puck movement and thought out shots by both sides led to a scoreless tie after one period of play.

The second period brought more of the same, with Baldwin pulling away and firing shot after shot at Moon goaltender Lukas Konecsni. Finally, at the 7:15 mark of the period, Golvash broke the tie and gave Baldwin a 1-0 lead. The second period closed with the Highlanders taking the one-goal advantage into the locker room and also outshooting the Tigers 27-15.

Golvash then picked up where he left off, adding a second goal just 1:20 into the third period. Justin Pollard joined the party at 7:15 of the period and Shannon shut the door secure the win for the Highlanders.

The victory sets up a rivalry night with Upper St. Clair on Monday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Ice Castle Arena.
