NEVILLE TWP, Pa. — After losing two players at the semester break, the Robert Morris men’s hockey team will get a reinforcement for the second half, as defenseman Nick Jenny, who was originally scheduled to join the team in the fall of 2017, will enroll a semester early. Jenny announced the move on Twitter, and he is expected to join the team next week.

Jenny, 20, had been playing for the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League, where he had two goals and three assists in 27 games. A 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Strongsville, Ohio, Jenny had committed to Robert Morris in March 2016, when he was playing for the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League and signed his National Letter of Intent with Robert Morris that April.

With senior defenseman John Rey forgoing the final semester of his senior year and turning professional, Robert Morris was left with just seven players on the blue line. Jenny should help provide some depth at the position. Like Rey, Jenny is a right-handed shot, which will restore a balance of four players from each side on defense.

The Colonials are still down a player from the beginning of the season, as forward Chris Schutz also left the team at the break, but they have more depth up front, with 15 eligible players and Michael Louria, who can practice with the team, but won’t play until 2017-18 as he sits out due to NCAA transfer rules.

The Colonials host American International this weekend, with games Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The Colonials are off the following week, giving Jenny two weeks to get up to speed before his first potential game action Jan. 20 and 21 against Air Force.
