Esmark Stars, Latrobe F Alexander Walker signs tender with NAHL Wichita

Greater Latrobe and Esmark Stars forward Alexander Walker has signed a tender with the Wichita Falls Warriors of the NAHL, the Stars announced on Monday.

Walker is a 6-foot, 160-pound forward. With the Wildcats in the 2019-29 PIHL season, he scored 12 goals and recorded 29 assists for 41 points in 13 games after recording 41 points in 19 games as a sophomore in 2018-19.

The Wildcats had qualified for the 2020 PIHL Class-2A Penguins Cup championship game before the postponement of the remainder of the playoffs due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In the NAPHL with the Stars, the 17-year-old Latrobe native scored seven goals and recorded 14 assists for 21 points in 16 games. In the postseason, the Stars won the midget major Mid-American District and qualified for the USA Hockey Under-18 Tier I National Championship, which was not played and has been canceled.

“Alex is a very gifted player who has worked hard at improving his game and skill set,” Stars u-18 head coach Dave Kosick said in a press release. “He has scored a number of highlight and memorable goals over the past three seasons with our program and his performance in NAPHL play and at the Mid-American District Championships solidified his high-end potential.”

Walker played for the Stars at the u-15 level in 2017-18 and u-16 level in 2018-19.

Walker is the second Stars and Latrobe player to sign a tender with the Warriors for the 2020-21 season, joining defenseman Lane Ruffner. The Warriors will be an NAHL expansion team, replacing a team in Wichita Falls that folded in 2017 after 15 seasons.
