Ferguson breaks 100 as Colonials rout Crusaders

If the way they played in the first period on Saturday is any indication, the Robert Morris Colonials must not have been pleased with their result Friday night against Holy Cross.

One night after spotting the Crusaders a four-goal lead in the opening frame, it was Robert Morris that jumped out to an early lead, scoring six times in the first 20 minutes and coasting to a 6-0 victory Saturday night.

Freshman forward Luke Lynch opened the scoring with what would be the eventual game-winner just 2:25 into the contests, but that would be all the scoring that was required, as senior goaltender Dalton Izyk, making his first start since Nov. 5, stopped all 25 shots for his sixth career shutout. Izyk is second all-time in shutouts amongst RMU goaltenders, trailing 2016 graduate Terry Shafer who has eight.

Junior forward Brady Ferguson had a goal and three assists. The second point — a shorthanded goal — was the 100th point in his Robert Morris career.

Ferguson is the ninth player in Robert Morris history to eclipse the 100-point mark. Six of them have come in the last three season. He trails all-time leading scorer Zac Lynch by 54 points.

On the season, Ferguson now has 42 points, 13 behind Zac Lynch’s single-season record of 55, attained a season ago.
