Glavach gets natural hat trick as IUP defeats Duquesne, 5-3, to move on in CHMA Tournament

HARMAR TWP., Pa. — The IUP Hawks took down the Duquesne Dukes for the third time this season, 5-3, behind a natural hat trick from forward Dominick Glavach Friday night at Alpha Ice Complex.

After Brendan George opened the scoring for IUP early in the first, the Duquesne defense tightened up to keep the deficit at one goal heading into first intermission.

Duquesne finally broke through, scoring two goals less than three minutes apart from PJ Breslow and Brandon Kozak, the latter coming short handed.

Unfortunately for the Dukes, it was not enough. Glavach scored three straight – one at the end of the second, one 39 seconds into the third period, and one on the other side of an unscheduled break to fix a pane of glass that had popped out – to put IUP up 4-2. After Cole Flory put an empty net goal in with 1:14 to play, Sean Lloyd got on the board with a goal with 18 second left in the period, but there was no more juice left in the Dukes as they fell, 5-3.

No. 3 IUP will move on to face No. 2 seed Robert Morris on Saturday at 4:20 p.m. at Alpha Ice Complex.
