Johnstown Tomahawks Lose Thriller to U.S. National Under-18 Team, 5-4

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Johnstown Tomahawks took the opportunity to host the US National Development U-18 Team in an afternoon bout at 1st Summit Arena in Johnstown on Monday, Jan. 4. While it was a closely contested matchup, Team USA came away with a 5-4 victory over the Tomahawks.

Team USA saw goals from Luke Hughes, Jeremy Wilmer, Red Savage, Aidan Hreschuk and Sean Behrens. USA’s starting goaltender, Kaidan Mbereko, stopped 28 of 32 shots on net.

Scoring for the Tomahawks were John Gelatt, Jared Gerger, Dustin Geregach (Montour, Esmark Stars) and Brendan Clark. Peyton Grainer was the starting goaltender for Johnstown. Grainer finished the day stopping 31 of 35 shots on net.

The exhibition, which was put together on short notice, was open to the public and free of charge.
