Kiski Area defeats Norwin for first playoff win in over 5 years

SALEM TWP., Pa. — The Kiski Area Cavaliers defeated the Norwin Knights, 3-2, Tuesday night at Center Ice Arena for their first playoff victory in over five years.

Jonathan Ayres goal at 6:19 of the second period put Kiski ahead and the Cavaliers went the distance to secure the win.

It was back and forth hockey in the first period where the Cavalier’s and Knight’s each saw goals from Matthew Drahos (7:26) and Ashton Yemc (9:22) respectfully, before Aiden Sites found the back of the net just 33 seconds into the second period to break the 1-1 tie. Later, down 3-1 late in the second period Norwin’s Logan Connelly got the Knights within one at 15:25.

Eric Petika started in net for the Cavaliers, stopping 28-of-30 shots on net. On the opposite end, it was Sam Coll in net for the Knights. Coll ended his night stopping 24-of-27.

With the win, Kiski Area moves on to the next round where they will play Indiana in the Semifinals at RMU Island Sports Center on Tuesday, Mar 10, at 7 pm.
