Lone Dylan Belak goal the difference as Baldwin holds off Meadville 1-0

Dylan Belak (30) scored the only goal of the game to push the Baldwin Highlanders past the Meadville Bulldogs, 1-0, at Ice Castle Arena on Monday, Mar. 2, 2020.

CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. — The first, and only, meeting of the regular season between the Baldwin Highlanders and Meadville Bulldogs back on Nov. 25 was one of Baldwin’s close victories, a 2-1 overtime thriller at the Meadville Recreational Complex. The playoff edition of this matchup would not differ in the slightest degree, as Baldwin won another close one, 1-0, Monday night at Ice Castle Arena.

With the score deadlocked at zeroes, Dylan Belak finally broke through with a goal four minutes into the second period. That remained the lone tally in the first two frames, but it wasn’t for lack of effort from the Highlanders. The shots on goal total was 37-8 in favor of Baldwin after two periods of play.

The third period was no different than the first two. Despite Meadville doubling their shot total to 16, the Bulldogs could not get anything past Tanner Cindrich, who completed the shutout for the 1-0 win.

Meadville goaltender Jordan McCurdy ended the night saving 44 of 45 shots in the loss.

The Highlanders will play the winner of Mars and Montour in the semifinals at the RMU Island Sports Center on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 9 p.m.
