JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Johnstown Tomahawks entered their three-game weekend series in fifth place in the five-team NAHL East Division.

But their opponents, the New Jersey Titans, were the team directly ahead of them in the standings, so it was a prime opportunity to gain ground, and that’s just what the Tomahawks did.

After dropping a 9-6 decision on Friday night, Johnstown roared back with a 4-3 win on Saturday and a 5-1 victory on Sunday.

The Tomahawks used nine different goal scorers over the three-game set, with Donovan Ott finding the back of the net three times — one in each game. Local products Roman Kramer (Serra Catholic, Pens Elite) had  goal and an assist and Christian Gorsack (Hempfield, Esmark Stars) scored a goal.

After Jack Leavy and Britt League combined to allow nine goals on Friday night, Kade Phipps stopped 72 of 76 shots the rest of the weekend for two wins and a .947 save percentage.

The back-to-back wins secured the first weekend series victory of the season by Johnstown and by taking six of nine points from the Titans, the Tomahawks are now eight points behind them for fourth place in the East Division.

The Tomahawks will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights for two games this coming weekend, with a 7:35 p.m. start on Friday and a 7 p.m. start on Sunday.
