Montour dominates Greensburg Salem, 14-1

MOON TWP, Pa. — The Montour Spartans showed why they were the top seed in PIHL Class-A on Monday night, with a convincing 14-1 victory over Greensburg Salem in their first round matchup.

The Spartans scored early and often, with four goals in the first three minutes, and never looked back, maintaining a large lead throughout the game and earning a spot in the quarterfinals.

Dustin Geregach opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game, followed by a fancy goal by Preston Muha one minute later. Muha took the puck in and toe-dragged it around the Golden Lions defender before finishing with a top-shelf shot. Less than a minute later, Ryan Eisel finished a nice passing play, his first of three goals in the period. Eisel’s third goal was an impressive effort, sliding the puck past the goalie as he was pulled down by a defender.

The Spartans wound up scoring 7 goals in the first frame.

Greensburg Salem got onto the scoreboard early in the second, capitalizing on a power-play opportunity. However, Montour answered right back with two goals in about a minute, and never gave Greesnsburg Salem another glimmer of hope the rest of the way.

Montour will advance to face the winner of the South Park-Sewickley Academy game on Monday, March 4 at Mt. Lebanon Ice Center.
