Notes from the rink: RMU’s Milne-Price, Welsh get CHA awards

Robert Morris junior defender Kirsten Welsh and senior goaltender Elijah Milne-Price were given College Hockey America weekly awards for their performances in the team’s pair of ties at Penn State over the weekend.

Welsh was named the CHA Player of Week after she scored the game-tying goal in other the 3-3 tie on Saturday and 2-2 draw on Sunday. Welsh has three goals and four assists in eight games so far this season.

Milne-Price played both games of the weekend series for the first time in her career. She made 28 saves on Saturday and 24 saves on Sunday to continue her career-long unbeaten streak. She is 4-0-2 with two shutouts this season with Robert Morris and is 5-0-2 overall in her collegiate career.

RANKED AGAIN

The Colonials maintained their No. 10 ranking in the USCHO.com poll on Monday, receiving 15 points. Tuesday, they dropped a spot from No. 9 to No. 10 in the USA Hockey / USA Today Coaches Poll.

The Colonials have been ranked in at least one of the national polls for 20 straight weeks, dating back to Dec. 6.

WJC TO PA

The 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Buffalo, New York from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, but Pennsylvania will get in on the action beforehand. Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa., will host the United States team and then Swedish team in a pre-tournament exhibition on Dec. 22.

Tickets will go on sale Nov. 6 at 10 a.m.
