Robert Morris head coach Paul Colontino has signed a four-year contract extension through the 2021-22 season, the university announced late last week.

Colontino, 41, is entering his seventh season with the Colonials and has compiled a 110-72-26 mark. The 2016-17 season was the program’s best, as the team won its first CHA regular season title, second CHA Tournament title and made its first NCAA Tournament appearance, while tying a team record with 24 victories.

“We are extremely excited to extend Paul’s contract,” athletic director Craig Coleman said in a press release. “He has accelerated the development of our women’s hockey program in recent years, and with Paul leading the program, it will be an exciting future for our young ladies.”

Colontino became the program’s longest-tenured coach in 2016-17. The third head coach since the team went Division I in 2005-06, Colontino is also the program’s all-time wins leader.

“RMU is a special place when it comes to academics and athletics because the university takes such pride in the high level of quality of the student-athlete experience,” Colontino said. “As a coach and staff member, these values are in perfect alignment with the women hockey program thus making it a perfect fit.”

The Colonials will start their 2017-18 season with an exhibition game against Ryerson on Sept. 23.
