Strong third period propels Mt. Lebanon past Cathedral Prep

MT. LEBANON, Pa. — The Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils scored four times in the third period to close out a 7-3 first round win over the Erie Cathedral Prep Ramblers.

The two teams played a close game through the first period until Luke Husak was able to tally a power play goal with under two minutes remaining in the period.

Blue Devils goaltender Bradley Weaver held strong, making key shorthanded saves during the period. The Ramblers held a 12-7 shot advantage in the first period and were able to respond quickly in the second period when Jordan Adams scored just a minute into the frame.

Husak tallied his second goal of the game to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead, one that they would not give up. After Wyatt George expanded the Blue Devil lead to two, Alexei Kowallis was able to get the Ramblers back on the board, closing the second period at 3-2.

Mt. Lebanon turned it on in the third period with goals by Feno Monaco, Griffin Erdely, Samuel Mitchel and George. The Ramblers would score a goal on a 5-on-3 power play to make the game 7-3.

Mt. Lebanon will face the winner of Peters Township and Canon-McMillan on Thursday, March 14 at the RMU Island Sports Center.
