CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. – Upper St. Clair continued their rise through the Class-3A standings with a 7-2 victory over Mt. Lebanon on Monday at Ice Castle Arena.

Mitchell Geinzer scored a hat trick and Devin Rohrich notched two goals of his own. Andrew Woomer and Kevin Finn were the other two goal scorers for the Panthers.

Rohrich opened the scoring midway through the first period with a power play goal, his second of the season and 11th overall. After a quiet ending to the first period, the Panthers opened up the game in the second.

Woomer scored at the 3:08 mark and Geinzer added two goals to extend the Upper St.Clair lead to 4-0. The two teams traded goals just 28 seconds apart toward the end of the second period and the advantage was 5-1 Panthers.

Feno Monaco got another one back for the Blue Devils 5:40 into the third period, but Geinzer’s hat trick and Rohrich’s second power play goal of the night proved to be too much for Mt. Lebanon to overcome as the Blue Devils fell, 7-2. Monaco had to be sent off the ice at the conclusion of the contest before the handshake line could form due to a scrum between several Upper St. Clair and Mt. Lebanon players.

Austin Martin got the start in net for Mt. Lebanon and allowed five goals on 19 shots. He was replaced by Tommy Schubert, who allowed two goals on 13 shots.

Jake Fisher saved 23 out of 25 shots for Upper St. Clair, giving regular starter Kyle Rohrich a night off.

The Panthers improved to 7-3 and will open the second half of their season on Monday, Jan 6 against Seneca Valley at Baierl Ice Complex at 9 p.m.

Mt. Lebanon will end their first half of the season at Central Catholic at Alpha Ice Complex on Tuesday, Dec 17 at 7 p.m.
