Four-goal first sends Pine-Richland over Hempfield

WARRENDALE, Pa. — Pine-Richland scored four goals in the first period and coasted to a 8-4 victory over Hempfield in the 2019 PIHL Penguins Cup Class-AA playoffs on Monday at Baierl Ice Complex.

Brandon Kashur, Jack Tyndall, Alexander Rihn and Jordan Rosenbaum scored in the first-period onslaught. Less than a minute into the second period, Brandon Will scored Pine-Richland’s fifth goal of the game and chased Hempfield starter Paul Oliver.

The Spartans mounted a third-period comeback attempt on goals from Aiden Edwards, Jared Berger and Jacob Holtzman, but goals from, Benjamin McLeiser and Jordan Rosenbaum late in the second extended the lead.

The teams traded goals in the third as Daniel Stauffer stopped 31 of 35 in goal for the victory and the Rams will advance to play Latrobe in the Class-AA semifinal.
