Jordan Timmons delays college enrollment due to injury

Jordan Timmons’ journey to Division I hockey has taken a bit of a detour this summer. The Bridgeville native and South Fayette alum was scheduled to be enrolling in the University of Connecticut this fall, but a shoulder injury has caused him to reclassify for the 2018-19 school year.

Timmons, who will turn 19 in October, had offseason shoulder surgery and as a result, the coaching staff at UConn asked him to push his enrollment back a season, Timmons told Pittsburgh Hockey Digest.

That’s why Timmons was selected by the Minot Minotauros in the ninth round of the 2017 NAHL draft on Wednesday.

While the NAHL remains a stand-by option, Timmons is planning on playing the 2017-18 season with the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. That’s where he spent the second half of the 2016-17 season, when he scored two goals and three assists in 17 games.

Timmons went to Cedar Rapids in a midseason trade from the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he put up one goal and eight assists in 19 games earlier in the year. He also played two games with the Sioux City Musketeers in 2015-16.

Before playing in the USHL, Timmons spent three seasons with South Fayette and played with the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U18 and U16 teams and the Esmark Stars U16 team.

While his college career will be pushed back a season, Timmons remains determined to come back strong and make an impact.

“It’s tough, but I’ll come back stronger,” he said.

Timmons is eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft later this month and played in the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
