Maggie LaGue becomes second Colonial drafted to NWHL

Robert Morris defender Maggie LaGue was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 National Women’s Hockey League draft by the Connecticut Whale, the 22nd overall pick. Each of the five teams in the league received a single pick in each of five rounds, held via social media on Dec 19-20, 2018.

LaGue, a Barre, Vermont native, became just the second player  in as many years from Robert Morris Women’s hockey to be drafted into the NWHL. Former Colonial forward Brittany Howard was selected 10th overall by the Buffalo Beauts in last season’s draft.

The Whale finished the 2017-18 season in last place at 3-11-2. They currently sit in fourth place this season at 2-4-1. They have allowed the second most goals against in the league, with 23, and have the second worst +/- rating at -11. LaGue was one of two defenders selected by Connecticut, and one of eight overall, in this year’s draft.

LaGue has four goals and 11 assists this season for the Colonials and 12 goals and 72 assists in her collegiate career.
