ACHA: ‘Ugly’ sweaters don’t help Slippery Rock against Pitt

Slippery Rock shows off their "ugly Christmas sweater" uniforms. -- ED MAJOR II

NEVILE TWP. and CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. — While Robert Morris’ Division I team battled Penn State across town, their ACHA counterparts (12-7-1, 6-3-0 CHMA) came away with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Slippery Rock (12-13-0, 5-3-0 CHMA) on Friday night at RMU Island Sports Center.

The Colonials then squeaked by West Virginia on Saturday in overtime, 6-5, while Slippery Rock was defeated by Pitt, 5-2.

The Colonials seem to be back to the way they started the season, understanding how to play a complete game and play well from behind. They started the season 8-0-0, but have since gone 4-7-1. The Panthers showed once more how explosive their offense can be. They have scored at least four goals in six of their nine CHMA games this season.

The Slippery Rock team staff even offered their take on twitter regarding the game on Saturday, and though all eyes may not agree, have to admire their hockey version of an ugly sweater contest. As always, Pitt was rocking the retro “Pitt script” logo with the throwback blue and gold. Simply a classic look.
