Bailey Backs North Allegheny to Fourth Penguins Cup

Josh Bailey makes a save in the second period of the 2021 Penguins Cup Championship game -- JARED TODHUNTER

NEVILLE TWP., Pa. — The North Allegheny Tigers clinched their fourth championship in team history on Monday evening at Clearview Arena at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center, defeating the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils 4-1 . Connor Chi’s goal with 8:04 elapsed in the third period proved to be the game winner after what looked to be a game that Mt. Lebanon had full control of throughout the second frame.

Josh Bailey was stellar throughout the evening, making routine save after routine save, especially when the Blue Devils began to dominate from the midway point of the first period throughout the second. The Tigers defense, while it may have appeared to be porous, was allowing the majority of the Mt. Lebanon shots to be visible for the senior.

North Allegheny opened up the scoring early as Austin Petersons shot careened off of Austin Martins pad and to the stick of Nathan Spak, who tapped it in at the 3:40 mark of the first. The Blue Devils began an assault on momentum, and at one point outshot the Tigers 22-4.

Sam Mitchell was able to solve Josh Bailey at 10:51 of the second, taking a Liam Byrne shot and stabbing it through the five-hole of the senior net-minder to tie the game at one.

Austin Peterson scored at 13:56 and Trey Gallo added an empty netter to cap off the scoring for the Tigers.

Bailey stopped 33-of-34 in the victory for North Allegheny.
