HARMAR TWP., Pa — Two top ten goliaths faced off at Alpha Ice Complex on Sunday afternoon in an instant classic as Greater Latrobe completed the comeback, defeating West Allegheny in a shootout. The game was the final of the 24th Annual PA Hockey Scholastic Showcase.
Clay Bovalina opened the scoring for West Allegheny in the first, and the Indians added two goals from Shane Nolan to take a commanding 3-0 lead. After a timeout by Josh Werner the Wildcats scored twice in the final 2:17 of the second, first receiving a goal from Peyton Jones and then a snipe by Alex Walker.
Ean Lamolinara’s goal with 12:43 remaining in regulation gave the Wildcats a new game at 3.
Two ten-minute overtimes couldn’t end the contest, so the game was resolved in a shootout. After goals by Cole Ferri and Nick Bandi, the game landed on the stick of Lane Ruffner, whose goal was held as the winner with a save on Kellen Rupnik by Vinny Amatucci.
