NEVILLE TWP, Pa. — Robert Morris forward Daniel Leavens has signed with the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Leavens, 23, is a Thornhill, Ontario native. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound right winger had 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points in 38 games for the Colonials in 2016-17. He also cross the 100-point plateau this season, finishing his collegiate career with 40 goals and 68 assists for 108 points.

“It’s going to be something new, something different, but something exciting at the same time,” Leavens said. ”

Leavens was alternate captain for the Colonials as a senior in 2016-17. He is the second player this offseason to sign with a professional team, joining captain Rob Mann, who signed with the ECHL’s Reading Royals earlier on Tuesday.

The Nailers are 31-25-8 and are in fifth place in the ECHL’s North Division. They are five points behind the Manchester Monarchs for the final playoff position.

Leavens will join Robert Morris alumnus Cody Wydo on the Nailers. Wydo is in his third season with the team.
