Deuces Wild as Baldwin defeats Greater Latrobe 6-2

GREENSBURG, Pa. — Carson Kress scored twice in the first, including the game-winning goal, as the Baldwin Fighting Highlanders defeated the Greater Latrobe Wildcats 6-2 on Thursday night at Kirk S. Nevin Arena. Keith Reed Jr. also netted a pair for Baldwin, while Peyton Myers scored both of the Greater Latrobe goals.

The Fighting Highlanders started their surge early, turning a Myers penalty into a 1-0 lead as Kress’ first of the evening found the back of the net from the goal line. Dom Trimbur followed up the effort, skating through the right circle and firing a shot that beat starter Vinny Amatucci high at 8:01. Baldwin closed out the scoring in the opening frame on a converted two-on-one, as Alex Aul fired a pass from the half wall that Kress was able to tap in.

The Wildcats then turned to senior Logan Byrd in net during the second and the offense became a little more potent. Myers’ first of the contest came at the 4:11 mark of the stanza, beating Eddie Nowicki to cut the lead back to two. Keith Reed Jr. found the back of the net at 9:48, extending the lead back to three. A phenomenal individual effort by Reid West gave Greater Latrobe hope, as the speedy sophomore chased a puck behind the net, dangled around a defender and found Myers camped out in front of the net for the second Wildcats goal.

Baldwin and Greater Latrobe played a tight third until Reed scored his second of the contest and Joey Jacobs fired home a shot late.
