HARMAR TWP., Pa – The Duquesne Dukes, after enduring an 8-4 defeat at the hands of John Carroll the night before, got their revenge at the expense of the Toledo Rockets, 10-5, in a dominant Sunday morning outing at Alpha Ice Complex.
Duquesne started Sunday’s game the same way they started Saturday. Quick and aggressive puck movement led to a goal by Hayden Feck just four and a half minutes in. Shai Maraavi fired a shot from the blue line and Feck put the rebound in to give Duquesne a 1-0 lead. Stephen D’Elia and Daniel Bigley scored just over a minute apart to give a 3-0 lead to the Dukes before Feck got his second goal of the game with 1:17 remaining in the first period.
The second period featured a goaltender change for Toledo. Manny Hertel-Bauman, who started Friday night’s game against Pitt, replaced starter Joe Fratantonio. Hertel-Bauman gave up only a single goal in the second period to PJ Breslow just over five minutes in. Sandwiched by two Toledo goals, the Rockets went into the second ice cut trailing 5-2.
The third period is when the flood gates opened, for both sides. Three and a half minutes in, Michael Kryzewski scored shorthanded for Duquesne but got thrown into the boards head first after the play. He returned to the ice a few minutes later, but on the ensuing power play, Hayden Feck got the hat trick with his third goal of the game. Toledo got one back a minute later but PJ Breslow scored his second of the game to move the Duquesne lead to 8-3. Sean Lloyd tipped a puck in for the 9-3 lead before Toledo got two more in a last ditch effort for a comeback. Their fifth goal resulted in a nasty collision with Duquesne goaltender Alex Neverve, but he stayed in the game after a brief examination from the medical staff.
Hayden Feck finished off the game with a power play goal with just under three minutes to play and gave the Dukes the 10-5 victory.
Duquesne’s next games will be at Buffalo on November 1 at 7:15 p.m. at Northtown Centre and at Rochester on November 2 at 4:30 p.m.
