HEADWATERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cody Wydo registered his first hat-trick of the season for the Wheeling Nailers on Feb. 15, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Brampton Beast. The 25-year-old winger added a goal on Feb. 19 to end the week with four tallies.
Wydo, a former Robert Morris captain, is in his third year with the Nailers. In 50 games this season, he has 21 goals and 16 assists. He has accumulated 45 goals and 48 assists for the squad in 118 games over his career.
Here’s whats going on elsewhere in the hockey world.
Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson (Pgh Hornets) went 2-1 with two shutouts in three starts. He stopped 37 shots against Minnesota on Feb. 14 and 24 for his second shutout of the week Feb. 19 against Los Angeles. Gibson is now tied for third in the NHL with five shutouts on the season.
Defenseman Matt Bartkowski (Mt. Lebanon) signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Calgary Flames Feb. 16. After spending the entire season with the AHL’s Providence Bruins, Bartkowski reported directly to Calgary and made his Flames debut Feb. 18 against Vancouver.
Florida Panthers forward Vince Trocheck had an assist in all three games, giving him points in five straight games with two goals and five assists in that span. … Columbus Blue Jackets forward Brandon Saad had a goal, two assists and a plus-five rating in four games.
Forward Ty Loney scored a goal and an assist for the Chicago Wolves. The 24 year old Pine-Richland alum has three goals and two assists since signing a professional tryout with the Wolves on Feb. 6. He had just two AHL goals in his previous 30 games at the level over the last three seasons.
Tyler Murovich (Mt. Lebanon) registered three goals and an assist for Atlanta. … Michael Houser (Wexford, Pa.) had a 2-1 record for the Cincinnati Cyclones with a save percentage of .922. … Chase Golightly (Robert Morris) scored a goal for the Florida Everblades. … Eric Levine (Robert Morris) won his second game of the season, and first since Nov. 20, in a 52 save performance over Tulsa on Feb. 18. … Zac Lynch (Robert Morris) had a goal and an assist for Manchester. … Derik Johnson scored a goal for Reading on Feb. 18. … Patrick Gaul (Pgh Hornets) registered two assists for South Carolina. … David Friedmann (Robert Morris) added a goal and assist for the Wichita Thunder.
Pensacola Ice Flyers forward Aaron Clarke (Robert Morris) scored two goals. Pensacola defenseman and fellow RMU alum Evan Moore scored a goal Feb. 19, his third of the season. … Fayetteville FireAntz right-winger Joe Harcharik (Robert Morris) and Peoria Rivermen right-winger Jeff Jones (Robert Morris) each had two assists.
Canonsburg native Nilan Nagy had a goal and an assist for Ujpest in the MOL Liga playoffs. They are tied, 2-2, in their series against Dunaujvarosi. … HK Nitra (Slovak Extraliga) forward Matt Cope (Robert Morris) had goal and three assists. Cope now has 18 points in 22 games in Slovakia. … Aalborg Pirates (Metal Ligaen) defenseman Andrew Blazek (Robert Morris) had a goal and an assist in two games.
Rebecca Vint (Robert Morris) had a goal and an assist for the Brampton Thunder of the CWHL. The former Colonials captain has eight goals and seven assists in 19 games on the season.
Trevor Recktenwald (Esmark Stars) scored a goal against Alaska-Anchorage on Feb. 17. … Matt Miller (Moon) scored a goal and added an assist for Ohio State against Michigan State. … Andrew Gaul (Wexford, Pa.) netted two goals and an assist over the weekend for Yale. … RIT women’s hockey forward Reagan Rust (Pens Elite) had a goal in the Tigers’ 5-2 loss to Syracuse on Feb. 17.
Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) forward Connor Quinn (Quaker Valley) had a goal and an assist in an 8-6 win over Newmarket Feb. 19. … Kemptville 73’s (CCHL) forward Adam Alavi (Peters Twp) had a goal, his ninth of the season.
USHL: Sioux City Musketeers forward Connor Ford (Pens Elite) had a goal, two assists and was a plus-four in two games.
NAHL: Johnstown Tomahawks forward Logan Stork (Upper St. Clair) had two goals include the game-winner and an empty-net, shorthanded tally against New Jersey Feb. 14. … Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights forward Paul Maust (Mars) had an assist against New Jersey Feb. 17. He now has seven assists in his last eight games.
