NEVILLE TWP., Pa. — West Allegheny came out flying and never looked back, defeating No. 3 Indiana 7-2 on Monday night at the RMU Island Sports Center.
West Allegheny came out flying in the first as Jacob Gyergyo got on the board at 1:05, finishing a Kellen Almady pass to beat Madison Barker and give the Indians a 1-0 lead. Shane Nolan extended the West Allegheny lead to two at 9:26, and just over two minutes later Ryniawec scored his first of the contest to give the Indians a 3-0 lead. Ben Nettleton cut the West Allegheny lead to 2 less than a minute later as he came in all alone and shot it past Joshua Ferry.
Ryniawec netted his second of the night at 12:07 of the next frame on a broken rush, beating Barker to the stick side, and West Allegheny lead 4-1 at the second intermission.
Nicholas Sweet, Almady and a second goal from Nolan highlighted a rambunctious third that saw two Indiana players ejected after the four-year starter Barker was ran early in the period. The senior left the contest shortly after attempting to see if she could play.
Eddy Williams scored a late goal for Indiana, but it was for naught. West Allegheny moves on to face the winner of South Fayette and North Hills, which will be contested at Printscape Arena Tuesday evening at 9:00 p.m.
