ROSTRAVER TWP., Pa. — Thomas Pica jumped in for our #BurghHockey coverage of the PIHL on Thursday night, as the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils and Peters Township Indians faced off at Rostraver Ice Gardens. The game was a make-up game from earlier this season.
Teams relied heavily on call-ups with both teams set to play three games in a seven day span, and it was Andrew Wilburt’s second period shorthanded goal that broke the ice for the Indians. Mt. Lebanon tied things up as Matthew Vines found the net less than five minutes later.
The two teams exchanged goals late in the third period, as Eric Wilburt and Ian Post each found the scoresheet a little more than a minute apart.
Peters Township controlled the overtime period, but it was Mt. Lebanon who prevailed in a shootout.
Overtime points are crucial in the 9-team AAA, and the point allowed Peters Township to move ahead of idle North Allegheny for first. Mt. Lebanon moved to four points back of the Tigers with a game in hand.
