ROSTRAVER, Pa. — Ian Kumar scored three goals and added an assist for the South Fayette Lions as they defeated the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars 5-2 on Thursday night at Rostraver Ice Garden.

Kumar started his assault on the scoresheet at 2:08 in the first period, taking a pass from Nolan Sarnowski and making it count. Matt Krieger evened things up for the Jaguars at 8:20, and a goal from Joey Oliver gave Thomas Jefferson the lead into the first intermission.

The Lions took over from that point, as Brandon Poage registered his first of the evening at 3:15, followed shortly by Kumar’s second of the game 1:44 later.

Poage tallied his second on the night early in the third, only to be bested once again by teammate Kumar’s third.

The Lions played the Jaguars tight, keeping the team from mounting any pressure while keeping the foot on the gas in terms of offensive pressure. Bruce Hardman stopped 42 of the 44 shots he faced on the evening for the Lions.

South Fayette advances to face the Meadville Bulldogs at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.
