HARMAR TWP., Pa. — Jack Mason scored a pair of goals in :14 seconds of the second and the Freeport Yellowjackets remained undefeated on the season after a 6-1 victory over Fox Chapel on Tuesday evening at Alpha Ice Complex. The Yellowjackets are now tied with Kiski for second place in the Northeast division and two points behind the division leading North Catholic Trojans.
The two teams skated to a scoreless first before Freeport began their assault on the Foxes in the second. Keith Smilowitz opened up the scoring just :14 into the frame and followed up with an assist on a Cole Mitchell tally at 3:27. The Yellowjackets continued to pressure Fox Chapel, and Caleb Hoffman added the third Freeport goal at 10:55. Mason went on two score two goals in :14 just under two minutes later to extend the lead to five. Danny Downey scored at the end of the period for Fox Chapel on a power-play to break the Tyler Lang shutout bid.
Nico DiSanti added a goal for the Yellowjackets in the third. The two teams ramped up the intensity in the final period, and after a scuffle around the Foxes bench with 2:48 remaining the squads each sent to players to the box at a time.
Lang went on to stop 21-of-22 shots in the win, while Joe Rattner had a rough day with the Freeport barrage, stopping 38-of-44.
