Mercyhurst University unveiled the logo and website for the 2021 Women’s Frozen Four on Wednesday, which will be held at Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pa. in March.
The 2021 tournament will be the second time Erie has hosted the event, after also holding it at the same venue in 2011.
The semifinals will be held on Friday, March 19 and the finals will be held on Sunday, March 21. Information on ticketing and the weekend’s schedule of events will be released on Mercyhurst’s website, here.
Erie was awarded the game back in 2016. Wisconsin prevailed over Boston University, 4-1 in the title game when Erie Insurance Arena last hosted in 2011.
Mercyhurst is the only team from the CHA to have appeared in the title game, losing to Wisconsin in 2009.
State College, Pa. will host the 2022 tournament, the third time it will be held in the state.
The 2021 tournament will be the first played without the possibility of a returning champion, as the 2020 tournament scheduled to be held in Boston in March was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Until 2020, the tournament had been played annually since 2001, with games played in Boston; Hamden, Connecticut; Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota; St. Charles, Missouri; Durham, New Hampshire; Lake Placid, New York and Providence, Rhode Island.
