SALEM TWP., Pa. — Nicholas Bruno scored two third-period goals as the Hempfield Spartans raced away from the Penn-Trafford Warriors, 5-1, Monday night at Center Ice Arena.
With a solid defensive effort in the second period, Caden Spehar and Logan Eisaman (game winning goal) found the back of the net just 27 second apart from one other late to lift the Spartans past the Warriors.
Nico Martucci was first on the score sheet for Penn-Trafford, scoring their lone goal, at 10:24 of the first period.
Hempfield continued to show their presence with Bruno registering a pair of goals in the final frame.
Penn-Trafford had a chance to close the gap with a 5-on-3 late in the third period but was unable to convert.
The Spartans seized an opportunity on an odd man rush when Jacob Holtzman fed Zachary Ridilla a perfectly placed saucer pass to increase Hempfield’s lead while short-handed.
Jackson Kerrigan made 23 saves on 28 shots on net for Penn-Trafford. Hempfield’s Paul Oliver finished the night stopping 25 of 26 shots on goal.
