North Catholic remains unbeaten, defeats South Park 2-1 Tuesday

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. — North Catholic continued their torrid return to the varsity level on Tuesday night at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex defeating South Park 2-1.

The Eagles pounced early in the contest, at one point outshooting the Trojans 9-1, confusing the young squad and forcing two two-man advantages back-to-back. Garret Brescosky found a loose puck and gave South Park the early lead as the second of the three overlapping penalties expired. Minutes later, the visitors fell into penalty trouble and North Catholic wound up on a two-minute, two-player advantage that was unsuccessful. The Trojans, on a 9-1 run in shots of their own, capitalized with a goal from Justin Felouzis just 18 seconds after the completion of the minors.

Quentin Shaffer’s goal with 3:14 remaining in the second gave North Catholic the lead for good.

Chris McFayden stopped 28-of-29 in the win for North Catholic while Shane Peremba continued his stellar play, making 39 saves in defeat.
