CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. — Danielle Serdachny’s goal at 16:52 of the third period tied things up for Colgate, but the Raiders ultimately fell to No. 3 Northeastern 2-1 in a shootout in the opening game of the Battle at the Burgh tournament at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Saturday.
The first goal of the contest was a little more luck than skill, as a Huskies shot on goal bounced into the glove of Liz Auby, who dropped the puck into the crease and a wide-open Mia Brown tapped in her seventh of the campaign. Colgate ramped up the intensity the remainder of the period, firing shot after shot on Northeastern starting net minder Aerin Frankel, but were unable to capitalize.
The two teams continued to toss momentum back-and-forth in the second and third, with both Auby and Frankel able to keep their respective squads in the contest.
WARM WELCOME
Colgate assistant coach Chelsea Walkland made her return to the greater Pittsburgh area in the contest, as the Pittsford, NY native had a four-year stint with the team as a player from 2006-10, with five additional seasons as an assistant coach on Paul Colontino’s squad from 2014-19.
Host Robert Morris and the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite welcomed her back as part of the pregame ceremonies.
ELITE HOMECOMING
Several members of the Penguins Elite program returned to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on Saturday, as Raiders Kaitlyn O’Donohoe and backup Huskies net-minder Gwyneth Philips were honored in the pregame.
