Norwin surges late, defeats South Park 7-3

SALEM TWP., Pa. — Alex Thomas and the Norwin Knights opened the season with a win over the South Park Eagles, 7-3, Monday night at Center Ice Arena.

Thomas netted his second of the game, and ultimately the game-winner, at 2:31 of the third period. He scored Norwin’s opening goal after a hectic play in front of the South Park net.

After a closely contested two periods, the Knights tapped into some energy as they came out in the third period with a sense of purpose, registering 4 goals with 16 shots on net.

South Park’s Justin Mettrick and goaltender Logan Thomas did everything they could to keep the Eagles in the game. Mettrick ended the night with the season’s first hat-trick, while South Park’s Thomas stopped 37 of 44 shots on goal. Sam Coll finished the game for Norwin saving 26 of 29 shots.

Norwin’s other goal scorers were Logan Fear, Sean Hanly, Anthony Cavallaro, Rob Chappell, and Jake Meier.

UP NEXT: 

Norwin will play the first of three consecutive away games when they travel to S&T Bank Arena in White Township to play Indiana on Thursday, Nov. 5.

South Park heads back home to host North Hills on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon.
