NEVILLE TWP., Pa. — The Robert Morris Colonials took on an in-state CHA rival, the Penn State Nittany Lions, at the RMU Island Sports Center for the first game of a Skate for the Cure series on Friday night and skated to a 2-2 tie.
Kirsten Welsh gave the Colonials a 2-0 lead with a goals in the first and second period. Penn State’s Abby Welch and Natalie Heising tied up the game in the third and forced overtime. The Nittany Lions would outshoot the Colonials 3-1 in the overtime, but neither team would find the net. The game settled with a 2-2 tie.
Both teams return to the RMU Island Sports Center for a 3:05 p.m. rematch on Saturday. The Colonials will be Skating for the Cure with fundraisers and their second annual Teddy Bear Toss.
