NEVILLE TWP., PA.– Sarah Paul scored a natural hat trick in the second period as the No. 14 Princeton Tigers defeated the Robert Morris Colonials 7-1 at Clearview Arena on Friday night. The loss dropped the Colonials to 3-4 on the season, while the contest opened the season for the Tigers.
For the Colonials it was another effort in which they were outshot by their opponent, this time by a total of 54-18, an occurrence that has been every game so far with the exception of a 30-30 effort against Bemidji State.
Robert Morris opened the scoring as Veronica Bac found a puck along the post for her team leading 4th power-play goal of the season at 2:35 of the first period, but Sewickley native Hannah Fetterolf that evened the contest at 8:59 with her first collegiate goal. Jane Kuehl scored at 16:05 to give Princeton the lead before Mia Coene’s tally 1:35 later extended it.
Lucy Phillips replaced Colonials starter Maggie Hatch in net for the second and appeared to be up to task before Paul found the back of the cage on three power-plays, scoring at 5:52, 14:13 and 16:29 of the frame.
Mackenzie Alexander scored an empty net goal at the 18:15 mark to close out the scoring for the Tigers.
Hatch stopped 16-of-19 for the Colonials, Phillips 28-of-31; while Jennifer Olnowich finished the game with 16 saves.
