GREENSBURG, Pa. — Beau Tomczak fired a shot from the goal line with 2:20 remaining in the extra period to send Quaker Valley past Latrobe on Wednesday night at Kirk Nevin Arena in Greensburg.
The two teams played a very basic style of hockey, exchanging multiple neutral zone opportunities and very few shots through the first 51 minutes of play. Hitting was kept to a minimum, and the two goaltenders made key save after key save to keep the two teams at a stalemate.
In overtime, Tomczak received a pass from Ryan Quinn and promptly fired a shot high on net that bounced off of the crossbar and beat junior netminder Gage Handwork. After a lengthy debate between the Wildcat coaching staff and the officials, it was ruled a good goal.
