Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena will host the 2022 NCAA Frozen Four men’s ice hockey tournament, according to a report by the Boston Herald.
The city had bid for one of a series of four games from 2019 to 2022 that will all be officially awarded later this month. The Herald reports that the other cities to win bids are Detroit, Buffalo and Boston in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Pittsburgh, along with the Penguins and Robert Morris University, hosted the tournament once before, in 2012. Yale defeated Quinnipiac in the tournament final. UMass-Lowell and St. Cloud State were the other participants. The tournament is usually held the first weekend in April. This year’s tournament is being held in Chicago and it will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2018.
The Frozen Four consists of the semifinals and finals of the 16-team NCAA men’s ice hockey tournament. Robert Morris has participated in the tournament once, in 2013.
