IN THE RINK: PIHL week 4

Here is our continuing “In The Rink” coverage of PIHL week No. 4.

FRIDAY, October 26th

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. — In a special “Drop-In” edition of our In The Rink coverage, Mitch took a trip to UPMC66 based on a tip, and found himself at a junior-varsity game between North Catholic and Indiana. The two teams did not disappoint, tying 2-2.

TUESDAY, October 23rd

CECIL TWP., Pa. — Mitch hit the road to watch Trinity host Bishop Canevin at Printscape Arena.

BISHOP CANEVIN 7, TRINITY 3

Jason Malesky opened up the scoring for the Crusaders at 13:47 of the first period, but Trinity responded with a goal from Corey Blommel at 12:26. The two teams remained deadlocked until 3:57 when Cameron Ropchock drove the net on a breakaway, giving Bishop Canevin a 2-1 lead.

The second period belonged to the Crusaders, as Evan Victor, Turner Anslem and Kevin Randal fired off three goals in a span of 2:51, which Colton Clingermanstang responded with a breakaway goal of his own 1:45 later. Late goals from Ropchock and Victor gave Bishop Canevin an assumed 7-2 lead heading into the cut, but Garrett Gellner scored a late tally to close the scoring out in the second.

MONDAY, October 22nd

DELMONT, Pa. — Jared Todhunter was at Center Ice Arena in Delmont for a twin-bill that included defending single-A Bishop McCort taking on Kiski Area, as well as a double-A matchup between Franklin Regional and Penn-Trafford.

As per the Center Ice Arena staff, this game was cancelled and no further details, including who forfeited, are available.

PENN-TRAFFORD 6, FRANKLIN REGIONAL 3

Initially a low scoring event, Seth Poziviak opened the scoring for the Warriors at 4:53 of the first before the two teams went on a scoring spree in the second. Trent Lunden tied things up for the Panthers only 15 seconds into the stanza, bested by Ben Leslie at 2:03. Mathieu Sliva tied things up at 7:40, but that was short lived as Gavin Patrick scored his first of three to give the Warriors the lead for good, as Poziviak added his second to Patrick’s three to give Penn-Trafford the victory.
