Robert Morris

RMU falls to Syracuse in overtime, 3-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Lindsay Eastwood scored 2:37 into the overtime period to give Syracuse a 3-2 win over Robert Morris at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Friday night.

The puck came around to Eastwood at the right point, and her slap shot deflected off the stick of Robert Morris forward Emilie Harley and over the shoulder of Colonials goaltender Lauren Bailey to give the Orange the victory.

Robert Morris came into the game having had a six-week break in between games, and it showed in the first period, as the Colonials dominated play, but some disjointed looks and turnovers gave the Orange cracks to take an advantage.

Early in the period, no one marked Emma Polaski coming off the Syracuse bench and she stepped into a one-timer that went over the shoulder of Bailey to put the Orange in the lead.

Five minutes later, seconds after the Orange killed a RMU power play, Kelli Rowswell found Lauren Bellefontaine on a 2-on-1 to extend the lead.

The Colonials regrouped in the second period. Natalie Marcuzzi scored from the slot on a 3-on-2. Sarah Quaranta and Maggie LaGue earned assists on the play.

Later in the second, RMU cashed in on a two-man advantage. With one Orange in the box already, Kristen Siermachesky was called for a check. The Colonials maintained possession, pulled Bailey for an extra attacker and Harley scored on a rebound from the top of the crease to tie the game. Jaycee Gebhard and Wasyn Rice assisted.

A scoreless third period was punctuated by several athletic saves by Bailey and a controversial no-goal call with 1:29 to play. Syracuse forward Anonda Hoppner swung at the puck with her stick and her skate, and the call on the ice of no goal due to a kick was upheld on replay review.
