Robert Morris senior forward Brady Ferguson will attend development camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins later this month.
Sources tell Pittsburgh Hockey Digest that Ferguson, 22, will skate with the Penguins’ minor leaguers, prospects and recent draftees. The Penguins announced Friday that the camp will be held from June 28 to July 1 at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township.
Ferguson led Robert Morris to the Atlantic Hockey Conference Tournament final in the 2016-17. He scored 24 goals and recorded 58 points to lead the team in both categories. He is the top scoring returning player in all of NCAA hockey. He has 48 goals and 118 points in his three-year career with the Colonials.
In 2016-17, he was a Hobey Baker Award nominee, the leading scorer in the AHC and a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.
The Lewisville, Texas native was not selected when he was eligible for the NHL Draft. He is free to sign with any NHL team as an undrafted free agent, but is expected to return to Robert Morris for his senior season first.
Ferguson will join former Robert Morris players Andrew Blazek, Brandon Denham, Nathan Longpre and Denny Urban as Colonials that have skated in development camp with the Penguins.
Denham was on the roster of the AHL’s Manitoba Moose last season and Blazek, Longpre and Urban all played at that level as well. No Robert Morris hockey player has ever played in the NHL.
