Robert Morris sophomore goaltender Francis Marotte will attend the Vancouver Canucks’ prospect development camp from July 4 to 6 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Marotte, a Longueil, Quebec, native, just completed his first season at Robert Morris, when he set a program records with a .931 save percentage and a 2.08 goals-against average.
At 22, Marotte is no longer eligible for the NHL Draft and is free to sign as a free agent with any NHL team that he chooses, but he is expected to return to Robert Morris for his second season with the Colonials in 2017-18.
Marotte will be the third Robert Morris player to skate in an NHL development camp this summer. Senior forward Brady Ferguson is attending Pittsburgh Penguins camp and junior forward Alex Tonge is skating with the Winnipeg Jets. This is Marotte’s first NHL camp.
In 2013-14, Marotte played 10 games with the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the British Columbia Hockey League. The Capitals play on Vancouver Island near Vancouver.
