The Robert Morris women visited the defending champions and top team in the country this weekend, the Clarkson Golden Knights.
Thought the Colonials were swept by the Knights in the two-game series in Potsdam, New York, they played a tightly contested pair of games with the consensus top team in the country.
On Friday, the Colonials dropped a 4-2 decision that saw Clarkson score with just 15 seconds left in the game. Amber Rennie and Jaycee Gebhart each scored a power play goal and recorded an assist.
On Saturday, the Colonials lost, 4-3. After falling into deficits of 3-0 and 4-1, Gebhard and Kirsten Welsh scored third-period goals to close the gap, but the Colonials’ comeback came up one goal short. Anjelica Diffendal also scored and Gebhard assisted on Welsh’s power-play goal to give her a four-point weekend.
Her six points on the season lead the Colonials and is fifth in the nation. She’s tied for fifth nationally with five assists.
