Robert Morris junior goaltender Francis Marotte has been named to the watch list for the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goaltender in college hockey.
Marotte, who has started 67 games over his first two seasons, is one of 20 players that were placed on the watch list.
He ranks tops in RMU history in goals-against average with a 2.35 career mark and is second in save percentage, third in shutouts and fourth in wins.
“I think Frank’s selection to the Richter Award watch list is well deserved,” RMU associate head coach Kody Van Rentergem said in a press release.
Van Rentergem works closely with Marotte and other Colonials’ goalies.
After taking the Colonials to the Atlantic Hockey championship game for the second consecutive season, Marotte spent the summer training with the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals at their prospect development camp.
Marotte played 26:25 of the Colonials’ exhibition game against Brock University on Sunday and did not allow a goal on five shots. The Colonials will begin their season Friday, when they host Bowling Green at RMU Island Sports Center at 7:05 p.m.
