Seneca Valley squeezes by North Allegheny 2-1, advances to Penguins Cup Final

NEVILLE TWP., Pa. — The No. 5 Seneca Valley Raiders defeated the No. 1 North Allegheny Tigers, 2-1, Monday at the RMU Island Sports Center. Andrew Davis broke a 1-1 tie over 10 minutes into the third period to give the Raiders their first and only lead of the game, 2-1.

Both regular season matchups between the Tigers and the Raiders were decided by a single goal. The results were identical 2-1 victories for North Allegheny on January 3 at North Park in the PIHL Winter Classic and on February 21 at Baierl Ice Complex.

But Monday was a flip of the script.

After Connor Chi scored the opening goal for the Tigers, Seneca Valley took the momentum back for good. Tobias McKee fired a shot from the blue line and watched it bounce off North Allegheny goaltender Rylan Murphy’s glove and into the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1.

There it remained, almost destined to stay knotted up until the end of time.

Then, in the third period, after over 10 minutes of scoreless action, Andrew Davis notched the go-ahead eventual game-winning goal by shoveling a puck into the net from the top of the crease.
