HARMAR TWP., Pa. — The Slippery Rock Pride used an early goal by Christian Miller and solid goaltending from Kevin Belanger to fight off the John Carroll Blue Streaks, 3-2, Friday night at Alpha Ice Complex and move on to the CHMA Tournament semifinals.
After Sebastiano Layne tied the game for the Blue Streaks 1-1 just under seven minutes into the first period, Antonio Esposito broke the tie and gave Slippery Rock the lead for good just 1:16 into the second. Jamie Mauro, Slippery Rock’s leading scorer, added the insurance just over the halfway point of the second period. Max Kirth-Gruszczynski got one back for John Carroll a few minutes later, but shutdown goaltending from Belanger gave Slippery Rock the 3-2 win and a date with the No. 1 seed Pitt Panthers in the semifinals Saturday at 1:20 p.m. at Alpha Ice Complex.
MAJOR FOCUS: Slippery Rock outlasts John Carroll, wins 3-2
