Bridgeville native Jordan Timmons is returning to Pittsburgh to finish his collegiate career.
Timmons, a South Fayette alum, spent his first two seasons of NCAA hockey with UConn, but announced on Twitter on Saturday that he’ll be spending his final two season at home at Robert Morris.
A 6-foot, 165-pound forward, Timmons recorded two assists in 36 games over two seasons with the Huskies.
He had a breakout season as a 19-year-old in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during the 2017-18 season, when he scored 24 goals and recorded 14 assists for 38 points in 50 games.
Timmons will have to sit out the 2020-21 season due to NCAA eligibility rules, unless he can secure a waiver. Players that are returning closer to home are generally given preference when it comes to waivers. Either way, he will have two seasons remaining with the Colonials.
He split his time in the USHL between Muskegon and Cedar Rapids in 2016-17 and a shoulder injury caused him to delay his college enrollment at UConn.
Timmons spent three seasons with South Fayette, scoring 34 goals and recording 23 assists for 57 points in just 12 games in 2015-16. He also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite under-18 and under-16 teams and was a part of the Esmark Stars under-16 team in 2013-14.
Robert Morris lost four forwards to graduation after the 2019-20 season: Jacob Coleman, Michael Coyne, Luke Lynch and Daniel Mantenuto. The Colonials will also need to replace defensemen Sean Giles and Alex Robert and goaltender Justin Kapelmaster.
Timmons will be the second local player joining RMU in 2020-21. Wexford native and former Pittsburgh Penguins Elite defenseman Brian Kramer will be skating on the Colonials’ blue line this fall as a freshman.
The Colonials are also expected to add freshman forwards Matthew Guerra (Sanford, Fla. / Lone Star Brahmas NAHL), Gavin Gulash (Red Bank, N.J. / New Jersey Jr. Titans NAHL), Kyler Head (Malone, N.Y. / New Jersey Jr. Titans NAHL) and Randy Hernández (Miami, Fla. / Brooks Bandits AJHL).
Additionally, Robert Morris is expected to add goaltender Noah West (Pittsboro, Ind. / Jamestown Rebels NAHL), defensemen David Lafrance (Ottawa, Ont. / Rockland Nationals CCHL) and Tyler Orban (Ottawa, Ont. / Corpus Christi Ice Rays NAHL).
