GREENSBURG, Pa.— In a hard fought battle that needed extra time, it was the South Park Eagles defeating the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions, 8-7, Thursday night at Kirk S. Nevin Arena.

Justin Metric helped lead his team with 4 assists and the game winning goal on the power-play with 1:26 remaining in overtime.

It took some time for the Eagles to get their legs moving. With 2:08 remaining in the first period, Connor Stewart provided the spark that ignited his team on a four goal spree. Scoring during that run, Stewart registered 2 goals while Ty Vargo and Jordan Penrod each added one. Penrod would end up earning a hat-trick scoring his second and third goal 44 seconds apart in the third period giving South Park a 6-3 lead.

Insert the Golden Lions first line and things became interesting. It took the combination of Colin Kruth, Owen Tutich and Jacob Smith 2:58 to make the game even with Tutich getting his second on the night, Kruth scoring twice and Smith earning an assist on each.

Ryan Malacki gave the lead back to South Park and it was Kruth, completing his own hat-trick, for the Golden Lions that sent the game into overtime with 15 seconds left in regulation.

Andrew Stead got the start in net for Greensburg Salem, stopping 25 of 33 shots on goal. South Park went with Logan Thomas who finished the night stopping 27 of 34 shots on goal.
