CASTLE SHANNON, Pa. — Upper St. Clair finished its regular season with a 6-3 victory over Shaler on Monday at Ice Castle that clinched the top seed in the PIHL Class-AA Southeast conference.
The Panthers finished the 2018-19 season with a 14-3-2 record and 30 points, one point better than second-place Latrobe. Shaler (2-14-3) finished in last place in the Northwest conference.
The Titans didn’t go down quietly in the finale, though. It was a one-goal game until the waning moments of the second period, when Devin Rohrich scored his team-leading 32nd goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game. That goal stood as the game-winner after Upper St. Clair raced away with a big lead in the third period.
By securing the top spot in the Southeast conference, Upper St. Clair has secured a bye into the first round. The Panthers will host the winner of the play-in game between Baldwin and Moon.
